Your weekly bulletin from the team at Hannah G. Solomon Elementary School, the pride of Peterson Park!

Solomon Principal Newsletter: June 2, 2017
Dear Parents and Community,

Many, many thanks to our staff and parents who were so instrumental in putting together our successful Asian Middle Eastern Heritage assembly, including the international fashion show, and the International Night on Friday. To single out a few that went above and beyond, I want to acknowledge Ms. Tamborino as the chairperson of International Night (and the mastermind behind the "Where in the World is Mr. Gamble" game) and our assembly coordinators, Ms. Bagga, Ms. Chan, Ms. Luciano, and Ms. McCarthy. That said, without the help of at least 100 others, the day could not have happened as it did. Thank you to all. Please scroll below to see some pictures from the day, which highlight what makes Solomon the pride of Peterson Park.

Also below, be sure to check out some pictures from Thursdays' Chicago Dance Off, featuring our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade dancers, supported through our partnership with Dancing with Class and Mr. VH. Congratulations to our dancers for placing 2nd in the city!

Our LSC is a vital part of our how our school's success, and we are looking for enthusiastic and engaged new members.

  • For those that have enrolled their Kindergarten students at Solomon for the 2017-2018 school year, you are invited to attend our Kindergarten tea for incoming parents and students this Wednesday at 9:15am. Meet the teacher, and talk to current parents and our PTO leadership. Students will be able to participate in their new classroom as well. We look forward to partnering with you for next year and beyond!

  • Our friends at Aspire Chicago are hosting a resource fair for families of students with special needs. The event is in Hillside on June 10, and more information can be found here (English or Spanish).

Online orders at www.shopttkits.com will be taken until June 19 (our school account number for online sales is 40823). Limited extra paper copies of the teacher-created supply kits are available in the main office.

Parent Teacher Organization Updates

Thank you to everyone who helped raise funds through our Walk, Jog, Roll-a-thon last month. At this point we are just short of our goal of $15,000, so if you haven't turned in your donations, there is still time to meet our goal. Incentive winners have been notified and will be recognized in various activities this month.

Our Lou Malnati's PTO restaurant giveback is scheduled for June 12. See the attached flier for details.

One final restaurant giveback has been scheduled for the final day of school, June 20, at King Pho (5414 W. Devon). This one is a Solomon favorite--great Vietnamese-Thai food from a Solomon family (Annabelle L., 6th grade)! A portion of the evening's proceeds comes back to our Solomon PTO, and celebrate the end of the year.

Our final PTO meeting of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, at 9:15am in our student lunchroom. The calendar for next year and an end-of-year recap will be discussed.
